  1. Test Proctor Volunteers are needed from Apex Middle School

Apex Middle School has been giving RACL tremendous support and help during the past school year. It is the time for us to do something for them now.

Test Proctor Volunteers are needed from Apex Middle School.

The dates that we need volunteers are: Tuesday, May 30th through Monday, June 5th. There will be several tests being administered on each of these days.

Also, please note that while we strongly prefer that proctors complete the online registration process prior to volunteering (per the instructions on the Sign-up Genius), this is not an absolute must. I will be at Apex Middle School, though, on the last two Saturdays and Sundays prior to testing (the 13th, 14th, 20th, and 21st) so that volunteers may access a school computer and complete this registration.

Dear Mr. Zhiping Zhang and Xin Fang,

My name is Terri Galeazzi, and I am the Testing Coordinator for Apex Middle School.

As you may know, public schools are mandated to give certain tests at the end of each school year. As a result of this testing mandate, our school is in need of many proctor volunteers. Without enough proctor volunteers, we will have a rather unsuccessful end to this school year.

Currently, our volunteer numbers are uncharacteristically low. It is for this reason that I am reaching out to you and the Raleigh Academy of Chinese Language. If possible, would you be willing to extend this volunteer opportunity to the staff and/or parents of the Raleigh Academy of Chinese Language?

I have attached a proctor volunteer advertisement, which provides a few more details and the sign-up link. The dates that we need volunteers are: Tuesday, May 30th through Monday, June 5th. There will be several tests being administered on each of these days. The start time each day is 8:15 a.m., and the end time is dependent upon the test being administered. If a volunteer is able to give some time, but not the whole time on a specified test day, then he/she may write a note in the Sign-up Genius indicating so.

Apex Middle School would be much honored to have the help of the Raleigh Academy of Chinese in recruiting test proctors. Thank you in advance for any assistance you and your school are able to provide!

Please feel free to e-mail me any questions you may have.

Sincerely,

Terri Galeazzi

  1. RACL workshop May 20, 2017: How to craft a unique, strong Common App/Coalition essay for your dream schools

You are cordially invited to attend an RACL workshop that helps high school students to write a strong Common Application/Coalition essay and to learn strategies to present yourself in your essay as a strong applicant for your dream schools.

Speaker: Dr. Huiling Ding, Associate Professor and Director of Masters of Science in Professional Writing and Technical Communication, Department of English, NC State University

Experienced professor admitting hundreds of graduate students and helping dozens of students craft their essays and get admitted by elite schools such as Yale, Cornell, Duke, U Penn, University of Chicago, Emory, Georgia Tech, and numerous medical schools.

Topic: How to craft a unique, strong Common App/Coalition essay for your dream schools

With Common Application releasing its seven topics for 2017-18 applications, it is time to think about ways to write strong CA essays to meet deadlines of early decision, early admission, and regular admission this year. You can get ahead of the game by spending the summer crafting the high-stakes essay that may help you land the perfect offer from your dream school. Questions covered in the workshop include:

– What does a strong Common Application/Coalition essay look like and how can you produce a good essay?

– What’s your competitors like and how can you set yourself apart from them?

– How can you build a coherent and intriguing narrative about yourself by digging into who you are as an individual?

– How can you tell good topics from clichés and less effective ones?

– What steps should you take in brainstorming, selecting topics, creating storylines, and crafting strong essays?

Target audience: Rising 12th graders and parents, 9th-11th graders interested in positioning yourself strongly in the college application process.
